Bad tuning pegs

Hello

today i was tuning my g peg and suddenly the whole peg just split in half.:(
luckly my oud is set up for twelve strings and i only use 11 so i tried putting the other spare peg in but it does not fit,
should i sand down the peg until it does fit?
has anybody else expierienced this with olive wood pegs?
does anybody know who makes ouds from the pyramidshop?

Thanks
:)

I experienced with the pegs of my cheap Syrian oud with oil, soap, talc... and the best I tried was wax which is used to restore wood. It is sold in tablets and is quite soft.

But the best solution is to buy an oud of more quality (minimum 300$). I could tune my Turkish oud from the first day and I have not returned to waste the time with the Syrian one.

Regards.

Greetings Gabriel,

Tuning pegs are made to fit in each whole. Both the pegs and the holes are worked with a special tool. If you sand the peg to fit in the whole it won't hold the string in tune and the result will be disastrous. Instrument makers also use a special wax compaound on the pegs before fitting them.

The best thing to do is to take the oud to a luthier to have it repaired. If you're in Spain I could help.

Take care
Nathan

Balsam wood pegs also very good like Ebony pegs.Currently I used Balsam pegs to my customer's ouds from Barcelona. They are stronger than Rosewood pegs, same with Ebony.I don't know if anybody used Balsam pegs before.

Regards all.

They may not fit the holes. The best way you take your oud to a luthier. As I remember you are from Australia.I recommend you Dimitri Dalagiorgos. His e-mail address is bouzoukimaker@hotmail.com
