Update to my website
I've made some changes to my website I thought I would share. The most significant is a new page about the Jubran I restored for Issa Boulos, with a
video clip.
Here's the link: http://www.msocp.com/Jameel.htm

Fantastic
Beautiful work Jameel!
Wonderful photos as well.
What does Issa say about the sound of this restoration compared to the original? - I'm curious about the odd bracing of the original oud and how it
might have impacted the sound.
What did you use to finish the bowl?
Really great looking oud !

Thanks, guys. I really apprecite it. Those photos were taken by my brother with his hoopty-do Nikon D70. (He used to be a professional
photographer)Kudos also to Sidi for doing the incredible calligraphy. It's a foretaste of the shamsiyya calligraphy for my current oud.
The restored oud sounds way better, in my opinion. The old one was warmer from age, but had less ring and sustain. With time I think it will be a nice
oud. I think Issa really likes it. He's performing with it regularly, and I saw him in concert in May with it singing an Abdel Wahab song just him on
the oud, it was incredible. So I guess he's happy with it.
I used Tru-oil to finish the bowl. It's a great finish if you don't want to bother with french polish, and it's more durable as well.

That's simply amazing! I am curious why no rosette was used.

The original didn't have one, and I didn't have the time to make one. But now that you mention it, it would like very nice with a bone rose.

Hey Jameel,
Is it just me or is that a big oud?

It's a bit on the big side, Adnan. The scale length is 63 cm, and the body is a couple inches longer than typical Nahat/Syrian oud size.

Is that why it projects so well on the lower notes?

I wish I knew! I'm no expert on sound production, just an experimenter, really. But I don't think that the abscence of the rose improves the sound.
Just listen to an old Nahat or Manol. Most have roses.
