This is a nice, detailed work of art. Is it painted or inlayed?

A polite correction
Dear Syrianoud,
Sorry for feeling obliged to correct information you give. I participated at the same workshop with Master Maurice Shehata. I touched and played the
oud you purchased. There have never been any “Oud Contest” and no award has ever given to any oud or any maker. This forum, as an esteemed one is
expected to be a media in which people share true information.

The details look painted on, but it is hard to tell. Beautiful work, of course, but do you think (especially on the fingerboard and the bowl), that
this detail work would simply wear off with a moderate amount of use?

Hey Jonathan,
Actually, those silver pieces are all individually inlaid. They are unbelievably tiny, but in the end make that beautiful floral design. Also, the
blue pieces are inlaid as well. It was an incredible amount of work.
Take care,
Mike

Dear Mr Türünz,
Can you give us more information on the Amman Oud Festival? Is it a festival of oud players as well as oud makers? Is it held every year and are there
concerts as well as instrument exhibits? How many luthiers exhibit their instruments there? Is it open to the public or just to invited guests?
I am sorry to be asking so many questions, but I have not been able to find any English language information on this festival.
Thank you again for your esteemed presence on these forums.
Regards,
Greg

Hello Mr. Greg,
The first International "OUD DAYS" within International Jerash Festival held by "The Arab League" on the first week of August in 2003. Twelve master
oud players gave concerts and three oud makers exhibited their ouds and shared their experiences at a collective workshop. I presented my original
"Oud Construction Tools Set" with a Power Point show at this meeting. Last year (2004) The Arab League dedicated this music event for the Kanoon
instrument. Master Kanoon players were invited from many countries.
This year the main program was divided in to two sections: "The First International Violin Days" and "Oud Days"
Violin players Oud players gave concerts during the festival and well known instrument makers came together at a meeting to discuss on instrument
making art, especially the Oud construction techniques. I explained some formulas dealing with "Brace Frequencies" at that meeting. All the
participant Oud makers had brought their instruments there to show to the colleagues. This year any "Oud Exhibition" was not executed.
Regards,
Greg |

When I visited Cairo recently, I saw the oud at Mr Shehata's workshop. A totally mind-blowing piece of work. The most surprising thing about Maurice
was how he was so enthusiastic about other people’s ouds that he saw at the festival. A very lovely guy.
