web site new page
I put a new page up that has some of the ouds I've made over the years. This the earliest one I have found so far, made in 1975 (I think)

Hey Richard,
For a while there I was playing one of your ouds made in 1979 with that spiffy label (oh to be young again. At least we still have our hair).
It belonged to my teacher Mimi Spencer, and she had loaned it to me when I discovered it was yours. It was a very well made and amazingly lightweight
(I was used to the heavier Arabic ones), and had that special neck joint, similar to the Tayyar we saw a while back. It had very delicate horn
shamsiya/qamariyas , and it might have been rosewood.
Too bad I didn't take pictures of it, or recorded a clip.
Then Mimi past away and the oud was sold or given away.
But the image of the label stayed with me.

That oud (#14) is now owned by Patrick Olson of Pangia. I originally I built it for Paul O'Hanesian. It has a whalebone fingerboard and someone later
added a maple inlay under the 2st string - a good idea! I met Mimi only once at a Mary Ellen' MasDonald's party. She was amazing, one of the best
musicians I ever met and a class act. Patrick is no slouch either, his recordings are very professionally done with solid rhythm and clean
arrangements. You can hear the oud if you get one of Pangia's CD's. His oud playing is excellent as well. He and Denise visited me on a tour to Portland, a real treat to see an old oud and make some
new friends.
