i don't know if any of you are familiar with spanish vihuela music from the 16th cent. but here's a good place to have a listen:

particulary the "Guardame Las Vacas" piece by Narvaez.

rob is also an oud player and the vihuela material, plus the intensity of his playing makes me think it's very similar in feeling to the oud. hope you enjoy it.
