Qanun and Voice
Hi People,
Merry Christmas and happy Eid AlAdha to everyone. I wanted to ask you if you guys know of any recording consisting only of Qanun, accompanying a
vocalist. Preferably an Arabic mawwal singer.

Thanks Jameel,
Would you know the titles of these songs or where I can find them?

There are a couple of albums of the singer Adib Dayikh of Aleppo singing traditional qasidas and mawwals to the accompaniment of the qanun (played by
Julien Jalaladdin Weiss).

Hi Chris,
The Weiss/Dayikh CDs came out in 1994. They may be out of print.
There is info about them on the Al Kindi Ensemble's home page: http://www.alkindi.org/anglais/disco_us/disco_us.htm
And maybe for sale on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000001UD4/qid=113608...
Interesting...I can't think of any other voice/qanoun only recordings.
Best,
John

Thanks John,
My uncle has been desperately looking for such a recording for the last seven years, so i thought its nothing the oud club can't solve. The
recrodings you mentioned, are they for qanon only? Thanks for your help John.

Chris,
In these recordings Adib Dayikh is accompanied by a qanun only. The vocal pieces are arranged in sets according to their maqam, and include
introductory taqsims. Dayikh is one of the last repositories of a very old Syrian repertoire of qasida and mawwal songs, and the maqams themselves
follow older forms that are not commonly heard today. If you want singing with soul, he has it.

Chris,
Did you get my U2U? I have a recording of Moroccan-Jewish music very similar to the Weiss/Dayikh recording you might be interested in.
Best,
John

Hi John,
I apologize for not responding on time. I just noticed your post and check my U2U. I am very thankful for your help. I am also very interested in
this recording. I can give you my address if you like and send you the cost of shipping. I appreciate your help.
