looks like it has the mumps! ... it is just the camera's distortion or is it lopsided? ... the treble side of the oud seems much larger than the bass
and one of the secondary sound holes seems much larger than the other.
a bass oud for sure. can't wait to see the traveling case ...
where did you find this? egypt?

Its not a bass oud. Its a verry nice example of a Khaligy oud.
You can see this oud and read more about it here.
Its just a awsome oud.!! look at the shamsiya on that baby

is there a distinction, in terms of oud decoration, which favors a leaner, more - shall we say - "re-feened" style of oud? turkish ouds have always
seemed to me to be less ornate.
the comparative lack of decoration on european lutes and the - to me - over abundance of it on some ouds is just amazing. i don't mean "good" or
"bad" - it's just a matter of taste. i'm one of those who involuntarily starts to reach for his wallet at the mere mention of the word "classic."

Isn't this the same oud with Mohamed Fadhel?? This is intersting, you can tell the oud in the picture below is not completely finished. Look at the
part where the neck joins the sound board.

That gentleman studied oud making with Mohamed Fadel. Wich explains why there is a striking resemblance.

The oud Yussef AL-Awad is holding built in the Fadel style, is actually made by a other Iraqi maker Iyad Al-Aswad who also have been working with
Fadel. On the photo is Iyad with Yussef.
Best wishes

I have met Yosif on my last trip to iraq. His shop is based in alathmaya raghba khatoon exactly opposite to Mohmad fadel workshop. He had some really
stunning ouds made by mohmad fadel in 1950, 1992,1980 also other iraqi ouds. I have been informed that currently he is the one who does the finishing
for fayeq fadel ouds. Iyad alasod as far as I know he is now insyria and he had his own workshop in jaraman in damascus.
