Oud in Los Angeles
Does anyone have any suggestions for ouds and supplies in L.A ?
I'm heading there to play guitar in a jazz trio on board a cruise ship (with a bit of oud sneaking in). I guess I will be looking for strings etc
maybe a lesson or two

Hmm... there's some oud activity here but not much in the way of supplies. Everyone I know gets their supplies online (strings... risha, etc..)
MaCabes Music store often has student grade Turkish ouds for sale and I've seen some old beat up ouds at Marina Music but nothing to get excited
about. Claremont Folk Music Center ( a good 45min- 1 hour drive away) has some ouds and may also have some strings - Rufi (Richard Barnes) is a good
repair tech there. That's it really... unless you wanted to look up Viken Najarian (oud builder in Orange County)
If you're going to be in LA for any period of time look me up!

William Shaheen lives outside of LA in Tustin (about 36 mi, according to mapquest). If you like, I can talk to him and see if he'll teach you. Jihad
Racy is also in LA, but I don't think he has much time to teach outside of UCLA.
email me: mail (at) brianprunka (dot) com
if you're interested.
