ebay warning

Hi everyone,

You may have noticed that recently I was bidding on an older oud on ebay (the 1934 Chicago oud). Soon after the bidding ended (which I lost) I was contacted about an apparent second chance offer to get the oud. The email claimed that the high bidder was not able to pay. All the emails I received looked very official.

Anyway, long story short, I suspected that something weird was up with the emails, since they recommended using Western Union and reported it to ebay. Ebay immediately replied saying all the correspondence related to this "second chance offer" was fraudulent and not from ebay.

I just want everyone to be careful. I barely escaped this one b/c I really wanted this oud. Dishonest people must be watching auctions and after they are over, contacting unsuspecting auction losers about a second chance (especially when they see a high maximum bid at the end of the auction).

So...be careful!

Mav,
I get emails all the time that look like they come from ebay. very often wanting to verify my credit card (click here) or some stuff and I ignore every single one of them.

I figure any info that they need to get to me will appear when I log into my ebay account.

too bad about the ud!

I don't know if i followed up with you on my story of all of those 78s that i was bidding on. I won 1 of them (not TOO pricey but more than i expected to pay). the Udi Nevres Bey Eviç Taksim i did not win. BOO HOO!!!!

i followed the bidding right down to the last second, often throwing in a high bid but somehow someone else managed to do even higher, even later. some of these things sold for very very high prices. yikes! fine, whatever. as long as some day they all get released so everyone can hear them.

sorry to get sidetracked here...

Adam
