About the gauge of the Pyramid lute strings
Hello all
I want to learn the details of Pyramid Lute Strings.
I want to learn the relation of the string number and gauge.
I understand that string number and gauge(mm) is the same for plain string.
However, I can not understand the relation of wound strings number and gauge.
For instance, how many mm is gauge about wound string number 1109?
How should I do to calculate the gauge from the string number?
I asked the pyramid string directly. There is no reply yet.
Anyone, please answer my question.
Best regards,
tsugumi

I am sorry I cannot help you but I just put Pyramids on my oud about 3 hours ago and I had to cut some strings in half---is that what you should do?

You almost got me confused between you and Truepharouh21 the way your name looked like. What made me realize the difference is that silly post. What
is this to do with what is being asked for?

I am surprised that Pyramid strings were supplied in that way. Some string makers do supply the strings in double length (5 long strings, rather than
10 normal length ones) and you need to cut them in half.
The Pyramid lute strings that I have purchased are always of the correct length. Perhaps they use the other method for their oud strings.

Greg

I just put a new Pyramids set on the Farouk Shehata oud and it sounded really deep. All strings came in one length and I had to cut them in half.
Sadly this piece of information is not what tsugumi is after. Maybe this thread will get him somewhere ...

One lenght strings for ouds is because kanoun players also use oud strings. So is normal some providers "supply the strings in double length (5 long
strings, rather than 10 normal length ones) and you need to cut them in half."
Sorry but "also sadly this piece of information is not what tsugumi is after."

Thank you Emad, Greg, and zalzal.
Mr.Nazih Ghadban, Mr.Matthias Wagner, and the Pyramid strings gave me information on the string.
They informed me of the string number of each course.
I want to know the relation between the string number and the gauge (how many mm is it)?

Hi Sydney
For yr question "how long is the vibrating length of the kanun strings roughly?" The reply is No idea at all....
I was just ordering some strings to my provider when he advised me that i was going to receive double length strings and he explained it because of
the kanoun. And i thought this explanation could give some light to some question asked in this post.
If you know anything else.....pls
