New member says Hi!

Hi everyone!
I'm a Swedish musician living in New Mexico, USA right now. I play alot of instruments: winds, strings, bowed etc from different countries (mainly traditional Swedish folk music). I just whanted to say this forum is awsome. :xtreme:
I don't own a Oud, but for right now I'm practice and study the maqamats on the Turkish cumbus. I hope very soon I'll be able to get me a beginners Oud. In the mean time I've put up a video of me trying to play a taqsim on maqam kurd with my cumbus (I have only studied middle-eastern/arabic music for a couple of weeks).

Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hO3RZebQ88&mode=related&sea...

Please give comments and/or critique and tell me if I'm on the right track.......
When it's time to get my first Oud I'll probably will be much more active here :)
Keep up the god work everyone and keep this amazing forum alive!
Oh, by the way I also play the baglama saz. Does anyone have any good sites or tunes for the that to study...

Namaste

Fredrik

Welcome to the site. I enjoyed your rendition of Lamma Bada Yatathanna. Let us know if you need help finding an instrument

Hi Fredrik

There is a well-known oud player from New Mexico called Rahim al-Haj - you might want to check him out: www.rahimalhaj.com

All the best

David

David - Yes I know! I'm very excited (to say the least) about that. He will have a concert in september in Albuquerque (40 min drive south of Santa Fe) and I will try to approach him then. :)

Mr Haluk - You are on the top of my list for my first beginners oud. I have built some instruments myself (didgeridoos, swedsih bagpipes, flutes etc) and I really like your work according to pictures and sound from this site.
And you seems to be a man with a big heart and do things because you love it than the greed of the money. That can be rare to encounter these days.......

welcome, habibi- Haluk is indeed a choice for a Turkish Oud- You should also look into Arabic Ouds as well, there are a number of people who can point you in the right direction here- again welcome to your new obsession!
