I just put my e-mail address and the demo lessons started to come to my mail. The site is in Arabic, but, just put your mail where you see the space. It should be the right place.
;)
Actualy, here is my mail, just go there and see for yourself. I marked Ali's lessons with a star.

It's OK. This mail is just for music lists.

Wauw, thanks... really appreciate it!

But I'm going to apply for those demo lessons too, I'd feel really uncomfortable going through your e-mail everytime - even if it's not personal mail...

Hi guys,

I'm new to this site and am in the process of learning to play the oud.

I've restored my late fathers oud which was made in Syria in 1966. I've been trying to teach myself to play the oud for the past month and find myself adicted to it and loving it.

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I want to learn to read music notes for the oud. Does anyone know where I can possible find this???

Abusin- thanks for the info on the learnoud website, I've just subscribed and it looks like it'll be a lot of fun checking in with that guy who plays the oud (and who looks a bit like he didn't get a good night's sleep!). Seems like you can get by without knowing Arabic, just by watching and listening to the guy play ( he's pretty good) you see what he is on about. The rest of the website looks pretty cool as well. nice find mate!

Darine- there is a website with a lot of maqams and info for the oud and shows the notes of the maqams, but not where to finger them:http://www.maqamworld.com/

A book that has oud chord charts as well as photos showing where to place your finger on the oud fingerboard corresponding to a note is the Hal Leonard method with CD by John Bilezikjian, you can usually find an inexpensive used copy on Amazon or ebay.

Dear sendibad,
to answer your questions if i may:
A1: You can pay using credit card, or by paypal.
A2: I have seen people trying to learn oud for years, but in vain, and seen people only took them very few months to tell people that they can handle this instrument. It takes certain things like: 1-Talent, 2-Good tuition, 3-Hardwork, 4-Determination and off you go.

Hahaha - I'd have to agree with MatthewW - It does look like Ali Hassan could do with a good night's sleep....;)

But a great way to learn the oud nevertheless, I've been receiving some demos as well...

Hi Darine,
Welcome to the forums. Spend a little time going through some of the thousands of topics on these forums and you will pickup lots of tips on how to go about the learning process. You will also find lots of sheet music posted within the threads and some of these could be a good place for you to start. You may need some professional help to get you started with reading music, but once you have a basic understanding, you will be on your way.
If possible, you should try to find a good oud teacher, as that is the very best way to begin. As a Sydneysider, you should have no trouble finding an appropriate teacher.

How about posting a picture of your Dad's oud. I am sure I am not the only forum member who would love to see it.

Good luck.

Greg

Hi Matthew,

good luck mate, Ali Hassan is a good oudist and a brilliant teacher.
I agree with you, that sometimes when I am practising after work at night I do feel like noding off looking at the video.... :D
I am currently busy with exams, hopefuly next week I go back on the strings ( I am looking for a new oud now, as I sold my Turkish one 2 Months ago, so I am struggling to make a choise between three brands)

Best of luck
