Mandol tunings

Hello folks. I'm about to receive an Algerian mandol from friend. Does anyone recommend spacific mandol tunings. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Also, does anyone know where I can get some recordings of Dahman Al Harashi?

"mandol" in my search engine yields mostly drug related hits - any available, on-line photos of the instrument named "mandol"? - sounds interesting.

hi william sparks - it's been a long time since i've heard from you.

Azul Will,

Why not ask a professional mandol player, like my friend Moh Alileche: http://www.flagoffreedom.com/ ? You can hear samples of (and purchase!) his 3 CDs at http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/102-7165089-6085711?url=search...

Ar Tufat,

Oops! The link didn't work. You can either paste the whole link into your browser or go to Amazon.com and search his name.

You can find cd of Dahmane El Harrachi on Amazone.
But you have to write 'HARRACHI' with 2 'R' and a 'C'.
Only a few on Amazone US. And more on Amazone France.
The famous original 'Ya Rayah' is on 'Le Chaabi : vol 1'
Club du disque arabe - AAA037

Thank gus. I just got my mandol, and Bill, nice to hear from you as well. I found out that mandol, or mondol, is strictly found in Algeria. There are only two makers of fine quality mandols in Algeria. My friend got mine from a local music shop. According to my friend, D A D G C is one of a few tunings used. Right now, I use Egyptian five course tuning E A D G C. Pics and sound clip will be up soon.
