In the interview, Simon talks about a Chicago concert 5 days after 9-11. I was at that concert. It was so great. The people who ran the concert
were there and visably amazed at the music and the crowd's reaction and standing ovation. They allowed the concert to run over its alloted time for
encores as the crowed insisted.

Yeah, I was there too. It was great. That was my first exposure to Simon's live playing and it hooked me on getting an oud.

Jameel,
Did you see the increadbly long line of people who bought Simon CD's after the concert and waited around for autographs? The guys in band were having
a great time being celebreties.
Did you go to their afternoon concert at the local Borders book store? The owners of the Border's bookstore chain was there, apparently he is a big
Simon fan.

Yeah, I was there afterward as well. Lots of people. I think a lot of those people were there anyway for the other performances that night too, since
Qantara's performance was part of the Chicago World Music Festival. But it was a great concert. I thought that so close after 9/11 that it might have
been cancelled. I was even a bit hesitant to attend, since I'm not from Chicago and was a little worried about travelling, but I'm glad I did. That
was the night I got info on some ouds from Najib, whom I bought my first oud from.

My favorite part of the interview was when he introduced the oud and its tuning just before he played. Mr. Shaheen made it easy for those who are new
at Middle Eastern music to understand the basic concepts.
