Azoffis right,
The turks are really up to date with their electronics. Whe I was there, you find sazes with bridge piezos and fishman/shadow eq's on the side, like
acoustic-electric guitars.
The electro-bağlama we're familiar with is old news, they have been around since the 60's, like our electric guitar, we now have an
acoustic-electric, which keeps the original sound.
I've got 4 sazes, one is a fully electric one with the two humbuckers, loads of switches, etc. It's got that great classic turkish sound, Orhan
Gencebay style.
My main saz is uzun sap (long neck) which has a shadow pickup under the bridge, but not onboard preamp. So I run that through the L.R baggs, sometimes
an EQ but most often without it, and the sound is great. It definatly is a bit more electric (ovation guitar pickup-esque) but still it's great, and
sounds more like a saz than an electric saz does.
Regards,
Paddy
