This intensive four hours workshop will include demonstration, discussion, and instruction, with interactive learning and hands on practice with Arab

World-renowned musician Simon Shaheen and his ensemble Qantara are coming to Madison, WI for four days (February 23-26) of performances and
educational workshops at Overture Center for the Arts (OCA).
Intensive Arabic Music Workshop for Musicians with Simon Shaheen
Saturday, February 24
11 am - 4 pm (lunch break from 1-2 pm)
Wisconsin Studio, OCA
Simon Shaheen's intensive 4-hour workshop on Arabic music will include instruction and interactive activities focusing on Arabic musical modes
(maqamat) and rhythmic patterns (iqat) with practical ear training and discussion of key elements of Arabic music performance such as musical
communication, dynamics, style, improvisation and interpretation. Participants can bring appropriate instruments like ouds, flutes, violins and
percussion or they can just come without instruments and participate through singing or clapping. Mr. Shaheen will also do some performance with the
participants.

Hi, P48,
I hosted Simon's group in Madison a couple of time to rave reviews. One local reviewer called it a "life chaging experience." People from the
Overture Center came and were amazed. They came into contact with SRO, Simon's agent and set it up up the performance.
I advised them to have the workshop. He is very good at that.

I'm only 3 hours away. Can't make it though. Sounds like a great oppurtunity. Let us know how it goes. Take some video if you can. That would be
great.
