Maurice Shehata Ouds
Hello to the Oud Forum.
This is my first post, as I am new here, but I've enjoyed the site for a while. I recently purchased a Maurice Shehata Oud and it arrived this week.
I'm really pleased with it. However, it is totally different than any oud I've ever owned. I don't want to say exactly how it's different just yet,
but I want to know: does anyone else out there have a Shehata Oud? What do you think of the sound? Of the action? Of the product as a whole? I'm
really interested in any comments any other Shehata owners have. Mine is the Syrian-Style twelve string model with the Coptic Rosettes. (It's not one
of the big Egyptian Inlay jobs.) I would be grateful for any comments on these ouds. Thanks.

Hello Melbourne.
Yeah, I can get some pictures here soon. Actually it's the Coptic Oud that they have for sale at Nile Shop and on Ebay. But those photos look a little
subjective, so I'll try to get some 'real world' pics up soon.
Anybody else out there have a Shehata they want to talk about?

I have one. I got it trough Mike directly from Maurice. I love it. The action is perfect and the sound is verry nice but mind you its particular. It
is verry unique and you need to find the right strings to get the best tone out of the instrument. Also the sound changes greatly within the first
year. If you play it regularly it becomes much rounder. I thought the sound of mine was rather sharp at first but it changed gradualy. Also I recomend
tuning lower 1/2 step lower if you want a nice feel and an even better sound.
Also the thing is with those instruments offered on ebay from nileshop. It seems to me that they have been produced a long time ago and are just
sitting somewhere untill there sold. I got mine built for me and shipped directly. The advantage of that was that I specified everything I wanted for
the oud. Shape of bowl, woods used, Scale lenght, type of finish used and where it is used. Etc...
