If Adam still reads these messages:
Well done, Adam. Excellent site. Just a couple of points: None of the links on the left-hand side work except Contact. And I can't read the scores as
they are too small, but there seems to be no way of zooming in.

It is a great site, I agree!
If you save the sheet music you want first in your documents, they can be printed out fine.

Rob, I just added a handy couple of links at the top of a page that displays a piece, you can now zoom in and out.

Hi Adam,
The zoom is handy, but not perfect as some of the lines go missing. But this is not criticism, as I am all too aware of what a great resource this is,
but I guess you want to make it as user-friendly as possible.
My problems with this beautiful music are:
a) pitch accuracy - I have pretty good ears, and I think I am fairly accurate most of the time, but lack the confidence to say I am exact. It would be
good to have even a midi file for each pitch.
b) Interpretation - how and when to ornament; mapping a path for a taksim (seyir?); different tunings (see other current thread on Turkish pitch)
c) articulation of usuls in solo playing
etc, etc. Well, you did ask )
My Tanbur playing never happened, Adam, I'm sorry to report. One tanbur for sale!

I would very much like to agree with Rob´s list above. Especially I would like to see examples of seyir ( I think there were some examples at your
web site, Adam, but not many?). Of course it might be that I´m just mentally lazy, but trying to figure out typical taksims for different makams just
by listening to recordings is hard work. I suppose this is different if you are living "inside" this music culture, or if you have a competent
teacher.
There´s one quote in Karl Signell´s book that drives me crazy:
"... ideally, a seyir should give a widely acceptable guide to the progression of a given makam... The student who memorizes all thirty of Yekta´s
seyirs, as suggested by the author, could not improve on this introduction to the mysteries of the makam system." (page 61)
WHERE, OH WHERE is this information available? You can´t just go to the nearby library to find an obscure 86 years old French dictionary, where
Yekta´s article was published. Pleeease...

Thank you, Dincer and Mav I'm so glad that you both like it.
Be sure to click on the link "Lilypond Files" to see the notation of pieces that I made myself using Lilypond. I'm a bit biased, I really feel that
Lilypond is making the best notation for any kind of music and especially for Turkish. Right now I have 11 pieces and I'm slowly working on more.
Slowly because it takes me a REALLY long time to make one!
on the Lilypond page, the .pdf's are the ones you can view pieces, the .ly files are the coding to make the pieces.
Let me know what you think!
