Haim.Look.Ala - Misc
This is quite a rare recording of Haim Look, a well known Jewish Cantor, specialized in the form of Ala.
it is not at its best shape, I should note, but it's not at its worst either. :-)

I love this recording.
Hope you'll enjoy it as well.

Am Happy to share this with you, chaldo.
strangely enough, for someone who is so popular, I couldn't find any
sorted biography of him on the net, beside an article in our online news.
will do my best to translate it once I'll get back from school.
Thank you as well, friend.
Nate.

The Piece starts with Kodam of Nauba Artsad:
11min into it, few beautiful taqsims are played which leads to the
relatively faster parts of the Kodam.
around the 20min mark, another mizan starts which I'm
not so sure about but I believe it starts with a song based on the Nauba of Arrivat L'Hasin:
Then, from 43min to 46 it's quiet, and then Tushia (a short
instrumental piece, might be equivalent to a Longa) of Nauba Istihillal is being played, leading to the Kodam of that Nuaba:
Then from 1.10h mark on, the same mizan played twice
though I love this piece a gr8 deal since it was the first
I've learned.
It called Betaychi of Nauba AlUshak:
will try and write all of it phonetically here next week or so.

About the Canotr: born in Casablanca in 1942 and got Orphaned at the age of 4. His first Musical Education was under his School's
Choir. often skipped school to learn from the late Rabbi David Buzzaglo, the most prominent among North-African Cantors.
He was sent to a European Yeshiva at the age of 13.
He did not receive any musical training there though was exposed and had mingled with the "Ashkenzi" community there.
Few years late, he returned to Morocco and worked as a Cantor in the Ashkenazi community in Tanjir.
Jewish American organization had sent him to a North African
town to open a Torah school for children.
in 1964, the first of his 11 children was born and he decided to come to Israel. settles in Beit Shemesh. (The Sun House ?!)
and started working as a teacher in the school there,
and as the years passed became the principle of that school.
Only in the 60s he returned to his singing and often was booked for performances in front of North African jews immigrants.
during the 70s, his resume include performances in France and the States. in one of his France concerts, he had met the late king of Morocco and the
king invited him to perform in his palace. Recordings of that performance (I assume this one is actually one of them) are on tapes and some on CDs.
He stayed in his work as a School's Principle till 1987 when L.A.
community invited him to be their Rabbi, as well as Cantor.
He returned to Beit Shemesh, 3 years ago and often perform
with The Andalusian Orchestra here as well as abroad on his own.
