Hello guys these are just some pictures of a old fauzy monshed oud I repaired for a friend. keep in mind Iam an amateur at best.
repairs include.
these are the pictures of when I first received it.
http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=6000
Neck reset for a playable action.
Fixed about 10 cracks on the bowl.
Fixed probably another 10 on the face.
replaced some tiles for the edge.
reglued pegbox ( it had become unglued)
Refinished the back using tru-oil. (the stuff works like magic)
this picture shows the repaired cracks in the face.

the old dowel was broken inside the neck which made the oud with unplayable action.

this is my little jig to make sure the neck is set up at the right angle for the action to be proper. The bottom of the 90degree ruler is flat against
the face and there is a peice of cardboard that mesures about 3mm that is added at the higher portion of the ruler so that it maintains the right
setback angle. then I taped it so it didnt move the glue set over nite and the results were good.

the sound of it completed.
Iam using strings made of nylon wound over nylon for the lower course its the prefered strings of the owner of this oud. It gives a nice old sound but
its not the best for tuning and the courses arent exactly ballanced in sound especialy the wound D 3rd string sounds a bit iffy... anyways Its not my
oud.
Sorry about the quality of the recording.. (and about the sound it makes when Iam breathing I have a stuffed nose... and its SUMMER! )

Nice oud and well done resoration. You need to change strings and maybe tuning to get the ¨Fawzy¨ sound. Now it just sounds like another Egyptian
oud....
Best wishes

Hi Samir...very nice job dude, especially in light of the "before" pictures. The bowl really came out looking fabulous !! Keep up the good work ! I'm
no expert on Arab oud sound, but I think it sounds pretty balanced, and really soulfull. Hope you post a sound file with different strings, if you end
up trying some.
Regards,
PaulO

Akram you can listen to it if you look up 10 posts.
I put a sound file. I dont have the oud anymore as I gave it back to Abu Mohsen.
UPDATE on the oud, I gave it back to the Abu Mohsen the owner of the shisha cafe. Someone borowed it to play with it and droped it from about table
high. The result was major damage to the edge tiles and the bottom of the face lifting off. So it is once again unplayable..

If you know once again shall repair it (dont give it back) then use Pyramid lute
strings. Yes I have seen several ouds by Fawzy and his classic models are structural stronger then the Bashir models.
Best wishes
Ronny
