New Ghadban oud

I haven't actually received the oud yet (I still owe Nazih some $), but I thought I'd share the pics anyway.

The bowl, which sat around Nazih's shop for years, was made in 2004 from 22 year-old walnut. The soundboard is made from 11 year-old cedar. The beard design was copied from 1946 Georges Nahat, and I believe the pick guard was modeled after a 1906 Ikhwan Nazih's currently selling on his site.

I'm not much for ornamentation, so I wanted things generally to be pretty plain. I requested that Nazih sign his name in Arabic on the inside, which he did, and he even put his name in the center of the rosette (I only wanted one rosette in order to get a better bass response).

I'll try to post a sound file of Nazih playing this later.

Congratulations Meursault, that is a very beautiful instrument. Mr Ghadban is a wonderful luthier and a great artist. I love the shams' design.

Play it in good health.

Regards,

Greg

New Ghadban Oud

Here's a sound file. I think it's got an unusual timbre, but I dig it.

Beautiful Meursault...congratualations! Simple, yet elegant. Just the right amount of detail work. Very old school look.
I really like that sleek body shape too. Looks very comfortable to play, and it has that lovely, unique Ghadban sound.

Mabrouk!

Congratulations, definitely. I love Mr. Ghadban's work and this oud in particular
is why he's so good. And there's nothing like old walnut for sound. Not even
Brazillian rosewood gets that sound. Very impressive. D.L.

Very nice piece of artwork indeed. And the sound is absolutely fantastic. It's my favorite kind of sound that i like in oud. I particularly liked the low bass resonance and clear notes. Very beautiful indeed.
If fact it reminds me of Nahat's oud in the early 20'th century, simple, elegant yet with high sound quality.
I liked the rosette in it very much. Very well crafted and the details were taken good care of, and obviously Mr. Nazih had paid much attention to this piece or artwork.
Mabrook Meursault...enjoy it with health and happiness.
