unusual rib layout

http://www.veyselmuzik.com/eng/antique.php

The website, veyselmuzik, have been mentioned a couple of times on the forum, especially it's antique section.

If you look at the third oud (Armenak Kalfayan (Oud - 1826)), you'd notice something strange about the ribs.

Any insights?

Hamid

p.s. I couldn't copy the photos because they're protected.

p.s.2. Does someone have an oud from this maker? They seem to have a Damascus model and a Manol model.

p.s.3. The shop is in istanbul, for those who were asking.

That is an amazing rib pattern! I wonder how many ouds were made like this?

I remember seeing this before and it is one of my faves. Imagine making a form for this kind of thing. I think he made three or four and then went completely mad.
