Make your own pick
I got this idea from a Sudani guy that works in oud shop in Jeddah.
He e told me to get a "Cloroxā€¯ bottle the medium size, because the plastic used in it not to flexible or to rigid.
Cut the middle section to get a flat sheet of plastic. Use it to cut as many picks as you like.
Actually, I did not think it will be good at first, but then he told me that all of Abadi's picks are made from Clorox bottels, and he used to
cut them for Abadi. He showed me picture of Abadi with a white pick that was made from Clorox bottles
I believed the guy and I made my own pick and I liked it a lot. It really sounds good. And it is cheap you can have up to ten or more picks from one
bottle.

I used to take shampoo bottles and tear them apart so that I could make rishas. Now, I just stick to the standard plastic ones that I get. But
don't get me wrong... making it from the bottles is a great idea.

PLastic comes in many different compunds and blends. Most bottles are plypropelene or polystyrene. Pickguard material is often nylon as are tie wraps.
Each material blend has different characteristics of resiliancy which affect the tone produced. You should experiment with different types of material
to find the one that sounds best for your oud. and your playing style. Every oud will have it's own pick preference and each player as well.
There is no one risha, mizrab, pick or plectrum that is best for all ouds and all players.

I agree with your opinion....
I have changed many types of rishas, and I can't say that I prefer one type special....
But I love to change the feeling of playing, and the risha is an important factor that helps me to do that

I was wondering since most of you guys don't make your own rishas
where do you purchase them from? I would love to have a variety of rishas to choose from but havn't been able to find much out there. All I have
are the Yissi(Turkish)rishas. Any suggestion would be GREATLY appreciated

I purchased some rishas from Viken Najarian at http://www.oud.net. He sells 2 types, a turkish (like the Yissi) and a clear plastic type.
I also got some horn strips from Yehia at the Nile Shop, and from Ronny Anderson.
I'd be interested in trying a Yissi, do you know where I can get some of those?

There's some avalible on ebay right now. Type in MIZRAP - PLECTRUM FOR UD - OUD. I would contact the seller to see if he'll send you more
than just the two they're selling to make it worth the shipping. Good luck

Viken's are $2 a piece. I think I e-mailed the guy selling the Yissi, but I needed to pay through pidpay, and it wasn't very clear how to
do it. How about a trade 1 of each of Viken's for 2 Yissis. If you got some extras, and if the price is the same. Email me and let me know.

You can find an eBay seller using the name nazilli (use advanced search). He sells mizraps, Turkish music VCDs etc. 10 black Turkish mizraps cost less
than $5 and shipping anywhere in the world is $2, and he uses Paypal.
