Wrong, the maqam of the month is hijaz kar, different fm hijaz kar kurd...which difference escapes totally my ears.
(I should be nicknamed Al Atrash or Ludwig....genious deducted).

But thank you Charlie because i did not have time to check the rest, fortunately you were there and now we can reach enthousiasm (ethymologically means "in God") listening to musicians born 100-150 years ago, music fm the 19th century....woahh....

Thank you Charlie

By the way, isn't this Samai Hijaz Kar Kurd similar to the one composed by Tatyos Efendi??

The blogger (and we can be proud that he is now a fellow forumite here) filed the oud record as iranian, as all indices tend to prove.
Shehada Saada sounds syrian or even lebanese.

Anybody here knows anything on oudist Chahadé Saadé fm the 20s-30s of last century. ??

The last khana sounds in such way that we could listen a kind of simultaneous string detuning....May be a secret accomplice was releasing pegs at the same time that Chahadé Saadé plucked the oud strings....

Not "atrash" at all zalzal, you are right it is the samai hijaz kar kord by Tatyos Effendi.
Never heard of a Chahadé Saadé, he could be iranian as the label looks like the Odeon labels on old records:
Give a look to this site

Hi!

Thanks for checking out my Excavated Shellac website and thanks to the reader who sent me the info about Tatyos Efendi. I have amended my site to be more accurate.

To answer the question about why I list the post as stemming from Iran is simple: the matrix number of this particular Odeon recording confirms that it was indeed recorded in Iran. It could be in error, but I'm skeptical.

Collecting older recordings is always a challenge, as there is only a relatively small amount of information available on such things as recording dates, places, times, etc. However, hearing from you folks, and learning more about the styles of music involved helps me greatly. I am deeply interested in numerous regional musics from this area, and am always on the hunt looking for items that interest me.

Thank you jonward. I'm ashame i did not commented in yr blog before posting here. I didn't even read the comments.
(I also edited my previous post so it sounds more diplomatic towards you...).

So hope some of our "homo oud sapiens" here, who are real musicologists and oud experts (not like me "oud australopithecus")
will comment on Shehada Saade.

Thank you very much.
With yr info i imagine that during the 20s and 30s artist fm middle east were travelling to Iran for recording 78'

Yes, thanks! I am very interested and accepting of any information, help, assistance and knowledge that any forum member might want to impart - especially in terms of the music I've posted!

I am also an "oud australopithecus," a kanun australopithecus, a kemence australopithecus, etc. etc. But I do love the music and love to know more ;)
