Im Back
greetings everyone!
cant remeber the last time i posted here -must have been about 3 or 4 years ago ,may be longer- but im back, after a long period of quasi-exile!
Past five years has been an inward phase working with different instruments, finding different voices, honing, learning. A lot of searching and
exploration and experimenting, less out and out career path performing. Part of this inward phase revolved around raising a family too ! took some
time away to have kids, etc.
Ive also migrated away somewhat from the oud and towards the sarod, which is probably my main instrument now, along with fretless electric guitar -
often thought of devising a program featuring all three!
. I do still have my Turkish Sandi, and an Eryadin. Sold my Yaroub that i got from Ronny and regret it, would like to get another Bashir style but it
has to be pitched low.
Hope everyone is well, would like to know how all the old forum members are doing! . i wanted to see the latest on Bashir ouds and checked Ronny's
site, but the old URL is nt working. Ronny did you move your site?
any way , nice to be back... Im inspired to re-integrate the oud a bit more into the work, and this will be a good place to help get back into all
things oud.!

hello Norumba- sounds like you have been on a most interesting journey of both musical and self- discovery. The sarod is one cool instrument! I always
fancied learning the sitar myself but maybe next lifetime, the oud is more than enough for now. best wishes=M.W.

Hi Norumba
I see from your website that you are based in New Mexico - do you know the Iraqi oud player Rahim Alhaj, who now lives in Albuquerque? You can visit
his website at http://www.rahimalhaj.com/ - he collaborated with the sarod player Amjad Ali Khan a little while back, and hopefully there will be a recording
released some time soon.
All the best
David

Nice to see you here too!
I can totally relate to the "inner" journey you are one. . . although, finally, lately I am, as you say, getting on the "career path" --- this has a
lot to do with investing in publishing 2 of my own CDs... now they are sitting there, so I gotta get out and "move them"
When I checked out you pages my first reaction was that something that would combine all 3 of your instruments would be amazing! ---you know, this
is something that i came up against as a Western sitarist... in the business world, they usually will hire a "brown skin" man first - but this is
understandable. - - - and it depends on your goals

Hi Stefan. sorry for missing your post!Nice to hear from you again and less nice to hear you sold the Yaroub! The model you had was with a deeper bowl
than normal and with a more mellow ¨bas¨ sound. Pitched low, I tune down my own ouds and some Bashir models as Fawzys is just as projective with a
low or high string tension so give it a try.
My site is gone and I am not planning to get it online again.
Best wishes
Ronny
