The Arab Orchestra of San Francisco is looking to expand its membership. We will be holding auditions on Sunday March 16th 3-6PM at our regular
rehearsal space at La Pena cultural center. Please feel free to forward..
Who we're looking for
Professional string (violin, viola, cello, double bass) players (no Arabic music experience is required, though it certainly is a plus). OR
Advanced string students in a conservatory or university music program (no prior experience in Arabic music need. We train). OR
Strong players of Arabic instruments (oud, qanun, nay, percussion)
And..
Confidence and stage presence (everyone plays solos, no exceptions)
Curiosity and willingness to take chances
Open-mindedness, interest in Arabic music, and courage to improvise (we train!)
Commitment to attend rehearsals (Sundays 3-6 PM, at La Pena Cultural Center in Berkeley), to practice, and to listen to Arabic music (especially the
repertoire we're working on)
Love for working in a group, help other players, give constructive feedback, be engaged in the group as a though it was your own project.
What we give
Training in Arabic music theory and practice
Training in improvisation in the Arabic style
Repertoire training
Experience in performing Arabic music
Honorarium for performing in concerts
Recommendation/invitation letters for grant applications, reports for receiving academic credit (per arrangements between you and your school)
