By the end of this year there is this book called Ud Metodu by Mutlu Torun that shall be translated into English (and Greek)... right now, if you knew
Turkish, you could teach yourself the Turkish oud from that book.
Otherwise, gotta wait...!

dear twin willows -
like you, i'm a million miles from anyone who could teach me how to play. i wouldn't let it bother you though as whatever you play on it
will be music - your music. if you're looking for a particular style of play then i'm sure you will be able to get what information you
need over the internet (videos, sound clips, cds, etc.) if you're more interested in the instrument than any particular style of play then i
would say learn the scales, try playing tremolo and the world is your oyster. another helpful site (apart magic mike's here) is oudcafe.com
managed by marvelous mav'. there's lots of information on both if you take the time to look.
first thing though is to get yourself an oud...
happy hunting.
regards - bill
