My new Oud
Dear Friends,
I'd like to share news of my new Oud. It's a custom instrument made for me by Nazih Ghadban in Lebanon. Some of you may have seen it displayed on
his website, titled Khawateri #4.
The Photos don't do it justice.
I'd initially wanted him to put all sorts of things on it (by way of décor) but I aquiesced to his concerns over the loss of coherence with the
initial design & left the adaptation up to him.
I'm very glad I did, because the Oud he produced is very beautiful, with perfect proportions, light & delicate but with a powerful voice.
Its proportions & balance are such that it produces a Tone in the inner ear of those who listen.
I've had it for several weeks, & the people with whom I play music have all been charmed by the Oud's beauty, fine workmanship & sweet, strong
tone.
As it is, the Oud sounds quite bright & powerful. When it reaches full maturity, I expect the sonority will be awesome.
The bone Calligraphic in the center of the large Rosette reads "al Hubb wal Ru'B" (Love & Awe), at my request.
The Oud's face is Cedar, while the Bowl is Walnut, pieced in an amazing pattern.
Finally, Mr. Ghadban is nice to do business with: very honest & a person of great integrity.
Peace & Blessings,
Borukh

What a beautiful instrument. The the bowl is singular and gorgeous; I have never seen walnut so beautifully done. Mr. Ghadban, you are an artist.
Borukh, you are a lucky man.
