Pretty Good Oud Stand
... aka The Miracle of Modern Adhesives. I had a Big Idea, started gluing up sticks "just to see," and got carried away somehow. Made of alder; the
back bow is six 2mm laminations. I love to use up scraps, and save practically everything - I keep them right next to the box labeled "Pieces Of
String Too Short To Save."
It's got a nice non-tippy footprint, feels mighty secure, and has the tiniest amount of springiness, not a bad quality. Some minor joinery things I'd
change next time, but on the whole I like it.
Less stand, more oud.

Thanks, Awad.

Heh. Now that's an idea - the down side would be getting a "One size fits absolutely all" design. This one accommodates my 'Irish Doggies'
Nahat-style bowl just fine, but my "Star of Cairo" flat-bottom turista oud isn't happy - it wants to stand up by itself! I'll put our Tireless R &
D Dep't on that right away.
If anybody wants to grab the idea and run with it, make a million bucks, I'll take a mere ten percent ...
It is kind of pretty, though; improvements remain irresistible and likely - some day. I really should be slicing ribs.

Wow!, so much more elegant than mine. I must learn how to download a pic so you can all smile indulgently.
Anyone any advice? The pictures are sitting in a folder on my laptop but I don't know how to copy into this box.

Log in, pick a topic, go to "Post Reply," chat away at length, then at the bottom, choose "Attachment;" click the "Browse" button, then select the
.jpg file from wherever you keep them; "Open," hit "Post Reply," and away you go. You'll figure it out. If I can do it, you can.
I'd like to see what you came up with for a stand.

Your suggestions worked beautifully.
Except my photo came through bigger than the actual stand, about 2 metres across, so I deleted it.
I'm off to plan someone's garden. When I come back I'll try to find out how to shrink a photo file.

So if this is becoming an open stand thread, I'll post a pic of my music stand. Unlike Carpenter and Patheslip, my hands aren't blessed with
craftmanship. This was made up to my design by some very good metalworkers down the road from where I used to live in Bangladesh. The central "arch"
which the base connects to was based loosely on the inverted scissor arch in Wells Cathedral, Somerset.

patheslip - to reduce image files down to a size suitable for posting I use " PIXresizer" software that can be downloaded for free. It is convenient,
quick and easy to use and can batch process images as well as single photos.

DaveH, your stand is very elegant. How to you put an oud on it?
jdowning. Thanks. Your recommendation worked and was really quick to use.
Here's a picture of my idiot proof stand, a piece of leftover plywood, an old hinge and a length of braided cord.
I haven't put the padding on yet, or the finish, but not bad for a wet day.

Good-looking stand! So, with a hinge and cord I'm thinking it folds flat? That's a nice feature, if so.
Pretty nice music stand also, Dave - not to mention the view out the window!

Patheslip - it's just for sheet music - bit off topic, but hey. Carpenter, thanks, that's my takasim view!

Sorry DaveH, I thought that you might hang the oud from it. Dooh!
Here's a pic of the stand folded flat. It weighs less than the oud. Which I thought was impossible with such an ethereal object. Ouds aren't really
of this world after all.
I don't compare myself with craftsmen like carpenter. I could no more make a dovetail than grow one. That's why I chose such an easy way to work.
Foolproof.
