christos tsiamoulis, antonis apergis, lizeta kalimeri

i have been listening to two very very nice CDs on the Libra label (Greece) recently which i think people on here will enjoy. the tracks are all beautifully arranged and mostly fit in the greek genre, but what i really like is how they incorporate a lot of influences from arabic and turkish music. there is even an armenian-style 10/8 on one of them. they also both feature the same singer, lizeta kalimeri who i think is phenomenal, in addition to an impressive list of guest musicians (erkan ogur, halil karaduman, ercan irmak, sokratis sinopoulos to name a few). in all these are great examples of how all of our instruments, kanun, ud, ney, klasik kemence, saz, bouzouki, zurna etc. can be used to make new music that is traditional and yet contemporary at the same time:

Christos Tsiamoulis: Lonely Land/ΑΦΥΛΑΚΤΗ ΣΚΟΠΙΑ
this one features halil karaduman and erkan ogur in addition to christos tsiamoulis who plays oud and baglama

Antonis Apergis: Starry Night/ΝΥΧΤΑ ΜΕ ΑΣΤΕΡΙΑ
antonis apergis is the guy who plays on an ud album called outi with haig yazdjian that has been mentioned on this forum before. this cd is very nice as well and there are actually two tracks from it on apergis' myspace page which you should check out:

-starry night/Νύχτα με αστέρια (a very elegant piece of music that features apergis playing cumbus)
-your innocent eyes/Τα παιδικά σου Μάτια

it's too bad tsiamoulis doesn't have something similar so people can hear some of the tracks from his cd...
