Amplifiying the Oud?
Hello all. I was just wondering what everyone thinks is the best way to amplify the oud for live performances. Most professionals seem to just mike
it. what about Transducer pickups? do they work well? Also, does the Oud being a Floating Bridge one as opposed to a fixed bridge one affect how well
it interacts with a transducer? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hey Shadi, I use a piezio as well as a mic and try to balance out the sound.

I happen to have a K&K Twin Spot external mount pickup Lying around. Do you think one of those would work well with a preamp and acoustic guitar
amplifier?

Hey Shadi,
Here's a picture for placement from the K&K website.
For playing live I've had mixed results. Since we attach the piezio to the soundboard there the thing can act like a drum head and give you massive
feedback... Or it can work just fine... my limited experiance has been that it's a little finicky, but I've always been able to make it work.
I've found that in smaller venues where the sound bounces around a lot off the walls has given me some issues. It's been solved for the most part by
using the notch filter on my pre-amp. However, I tend to use a combination of piezio and mic. to fill out the sound. In a larger or more open
setting (like outside) I've just been using the piezios with no notch filter (drop the bass a bit and boost the mids and treble) and have had NO
problems.
