Samai Nahawand by Mashud Gamil
I've been learning this beautiful piece of music. I have heard it on recording both by Adel Salmeh and Saker Hater (spelling?). Does anyone know of
any other compositions by this composer both recording and in print? Both versions I have heard are totally wonderful and very different from each
other in their interpretation. Any info on this composer's work will be appreciated.

"Perhaps because of his impatient nature, Mesut Cemil was not a prolific composer of scored pieces."

Ask Adel on this forum. He plays it on one of his records. It's beautiful. Also, check out http://sakherhattar.com/
He's a Jordanian player

I first saw his videos from a link on this forum a couple of years ago - he is absolutely fantastic, such a great relish and feel for the instrument,
just utterly compelling to watch and listen.

It makes me laugh 'cos the interviewer wants to talk at Udi Hattar just want s to play ... watch his eyes lol my daughters come to me sometimes when
I am playing oud or guitar with important and vital requests like 'can I play out?' or 'can I have a go on your bouzouki?' and complain 'cos 'Dad your
eyes have gone all funny again!!!' then 'Dad the house is on fire...' no change.
Its a great video
cheers

Great video Leon. By the way, if your daughters want to have a go on your Bouzouki, I say let them! Who knows, they might take a liking to the
instrument, and end up playing into there 20s and more.

Hi Owain
Oh yes of course I let them, my eldest daughter is nearly 9 and is
turning into a rock chick, she's gonna be a good drummer I think, we're getting her a kit for Xmas. its amazing to see how quickly they learn at that age.
They have their rock & pop, but they also heavily swayed by Daddy's little oudy obsession - so there's hope for them yet.
BTW I got your u2u (very kind words!!) and I'll send you a good reply tonight - I've goto to work now.
See you my friend

Thanks for posting that video of Sakher Hattar. He is such an amazing player. I had the privelage of studying with him at Simon Shaheen's retreat.
I hope he comes to the states again. I am blown away by his ornamentation, his passion and how totally clean his playing is. Is he playing one of
Faruk's oud you think?

Here are 3 versions of this piece, one by Adel Salameh, the other by Sakher Hattar, and the third by the composer and master himself. I have also
uploaded the score, which you can see, is very basic without the ornamentations and personal passion these artists add to it. What a great lesson in
learning this music!
