Marrou Alaya El Helwin - Western Music Quote?

Hi Folks,

While we are on the topic of Nazem El Ghazali and our ignorance of our own cultures in the West...

Does anyone know if the introduction to Nazem El Ghazali's "Marrou Alaya El Helwin" quotes a Western Classical piece (sounds familiar to me) and, if so, which one?

Here is a sample of the song, but, alas, without the introduction in question:

http://www.maqam.com/store/p/973-Al-Aroussa-Al-Arabia.html (song #2)

The whole song appears to be posted on several file-sharing forums which I don't want to join, including:
http://www.dewaniya.com/full-old-arabic-albums-13/9075.html

Thanks,
John

This is one of the songs I practice every day. I don't know of any western tune added in, but one part reminds me of an old disco song. I don't know the name of it but if I find out I'll let you know. :D

Hi John
It's known since Abdel wahad and farid el atrash that western music or its influence was used in arabic music.
Here is an example from Farid. Tango music

another one from abdel wahab but sung by a somaaya el baalbaki recently. It's deeply faithful to the original sung by 3abdel wahab but I couldn't find.

No wonder if Nazim el ghazali did similar thing tho.
Best

The music that sounds like a quote from Western music is basically the first 30 seconds of this recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyQGsFxUHBA It sounds sort of Italian to my ears, maybe something from an opera?

It doesn't ring a bell for me. I tried it in this search tool and came up with nothing:
