BARBAT -Persian Oud-

Can anyone recommend any good Utube clips?

What about the scene there? ...what is going on? anything?

I am seriously thinking about going there on my next trip.....

Thanks!

yes, thanks so much! However he lives in Vancouver..... I will be in Vancouver for 3 months this coming summer, so I guess I don't need to go to Tehran:D ....I mean, honestly, are there any Iranians actually playing Barbat IN IRAN?? ...there seems almost nothing on youtube? ....lots of TAR! but oud????

I am starting to feel that probably the next best place to go for "oud transfusions" is probably Beirut. Maybe it is a sin to call yourself an oud player without having set foot in the Levent? :))

I am really starting to feel tempted to go to Beirut.... have had offers to meet MANY great musicians already - the place seems crawling with oud masters!

...but I am wondering if at this point getting a "cultural injection" from a slightly different spice zone might in fact help me more in the long run. Has anyone out there visited Iran on a musical mission - and lived to tell about it? :))

Edward,

I think access to YouTube was blocked in Iran at one stage, but not sure what the situation is now?

Dr Oud might be able to help you out with some oud contacts there.

All the best

David
