experimenting with sa'alouni el nas ...
http://www.4shared.com/file/105380546/ac860041/saalouni.html
Not the song itself. A while ago, a friend was telling me how the song came about. The story kind of stuck, and this is a kind of reflection on the
various thoughts and feelings going around at the time ...
Cheers,
hamid ...

I always check this section because I enjoy the members' recordings more than professional ones. I feel more at home. And I wish I was experimenting
the same way as you did.
It was really good.. I enjoyed it a lot and even tried to imitate some of your phrases to try to have the same feeling as yours. It was well organized
and the transitions are appealing. The style is rich and expressive.. I was strongly interacting with all the different musical passages, each of
which you can build a taqsim on.
Congratulations! I hope you the best
Could you tell us more about the story please? I'm curious about it..

well done Hamid. I like how you take your time to build up the right mood at the start, and then go on to some very good use of the risha in the more
up-tempo sections. what oud are you using? regards, MW

I'm a terrible story teller, and with far less talent than the person who told to me .. but here goes.
The Rahbanis were working on the play “El-Mahatta” when Assi, Fairuz’s husband, was hospitalized. And before the opening night, it is said that
Mansour wrote this song and Ziad, who was too young at the time, composed it. The part that I reacted to was that Fairuz found it so hard to go to the
hospital when Assi was admitted as it was beyond her capability to see him ill. The song itself, as it seems, was composed as a greeting to Assi to be
sung before the actual play. Reports exist that, the first time Fairuz sang it, she was she emotional especially when she came to the fourth line
“la awwal marra ma benkoun sawa” which roughly translates to “We are parted for the first time.”
So between the imagination of the joys and aches of the heart, this came about ..
Matthew, this is a low-budget beginner's oud by a maker named Fawzi Al-Attar, I think. (I'll check once I go home.)
Thank you all for your feedback. It is greatly appreciated that you took your time to listen and comment.
Hamid

Hello Amtaha.
I really like the way you play around this song. There are a lot of mood and colors in the themes you play. Time and breath in this long recording.
This thread is closed to another one in "tips and questions" on this forum. This give the opportunity to get many informations and ideas about this
tune. Like Matthew says, you have a very fine use of the risha.
Thanks for giving here this clip!

I'm trying since a week or two to get a translation for the song lyrics ( I don't speak , read or understand arabic ). No one in my area able to help
me.
May be a kind multilinguist could give me this help, here.
I don't know why, but it looks strange for me to play the melody of a song when I don't understand the meaning of the words, even if I play it just
for me.....
In the case of a song, words and music are closed together.....the answer must stay there....( le poids des mots.....)
Thanks for advance.

Do you know the original song?
I will try to write you a translation on the fly for the refrain and the first couplet - not the best but will be good for a quick one:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
People have asked me about you, my lover
They wrote letters and the wind took them away
It's difficult for me to sing, my lover
It's the first time we're not together
People have asked me about you
I told them he's coming back, don't blame me
I closed my eyes fearing that..
They will see you hiding in them
The wind blew up
And made me cry
It's the first time we're not together
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sorry I couldn't translate the second couplet.. I'm not a translator and the meanings are not so simple to translate..
Hope it helps a bit
Good luck

Here's a crude translation. Like Reda, I kind of got confused about the second verse. I'm not quite settled on who the subjects (references) are, but
here goes ..
And of course, thanks Francis for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Hamid
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
They've asked about you, my love
And wrote in letters that got lost in the wind
How hard it is to sing, my love
When it's the first time we're not together
And they've asked about you
And I told them I'm not to be blamed - he will be back.
And I shut my eyes, fearing that you're hiding in them
And the wind came, and the longing made me cry
Because it's first time we're not together
And the longing appeared from within the night, asking me to shed some light
But the night met me, and blew out my lanterns
And don't ask me how I knew my way
My heart was my guide to you
O, for the first time we're not together ...
