Indeed you're right mrkmni.
What I heard about this 8 strings oud is that he develop it from an old description in a manuscript.
But it seems it was an horror to play on it...as you say, getting lost. Too difficult to play so the project didn't went ahead.

And by the way...this oud is really gorgeous, alf mabrouk!

"He has constructed an eight-string oud following the manuscript of the 9th century music theorist al-Farabi. This new design (8 instead of 6 strings) expanded the musical range of the oud and gave it a distinct tonality."

I've also seen him on youtube play an 8-string oud, but I cannot find the link at the moment. If I find it again I'll post it.

Farabi :D ooh yeh
samir 3azar in syria is doing on regular bases 8 strings oud. I was planning getting one from him but I went with Matta for a 7 strings.
Actually the 8 strings that samir does can be tuned as Do-fa-la-re-sol-do-fa-sibemol. One can do e.g Re-La-Re-sol-do-fa-sib on a 7 strings and reaches similar octaves to an 8 strings.
yalla ..do it reda on your new oud:cool:

I have heard that this manuscript is a fake one not related to Farabi but more recent

Congratulation again, I ll try to buy one similar later on, but with 6 strings for sure.

Simon plays a Nahat from the 1920's, not a Ghadban.
