Documentary
Hi all
This is a long shot....
A number of years ago I saw a documentary on an English Lutenist travelling to Palestine to learn about Ouds. The doco follows him around as he visits
musicians and an Oud maker (in Nazareth, I think).
Does anyone know about this documentary? I have been searching for it but--alas--I cannot find it.
Can anyone help me find this show?
Cheers
CQ

You may be referring to the film of the visit by lutenist Anthony Rooley and Emma Kirkby to Cairo over 30 years ago? (see "Strong Ouds - Fact or
Fiction" posted on the Ouds Project Forum 9-26-2007).
I saw the pre-broadcast version of the film at a lute Summer School organised by Rooley/Kirkby and have recently tried to obtain information about it
directly from Rooley but never had a reply.
Forum member Ronny Andersson recorded the TV version on tape and had plans to post it on the Forum but has not done so to date. Perhaps there may be
copyright issues preventing this?

Hey CQ, Yes, I vaguely remember. The guy was exploring links between the lute and oud. I think it was a BBC production or possibly Channel 4 (UK). It
may be worth visiting these sites and enquiring. It will definately be in their archives and may be accessible. Let us know how you get on.
Best Wishes, Charlie

Thanks for the link chaldo - the film archive reference is ACE087 'Like as the Lute'. However, access to the archive apparently is only possible
through a uk (educational?) institution which presumably rules it out for the vast majority of the population
