New oud owner
Hi everybody,
I finally got my first oud.
Yesterday I made the trip to Holland to visit Sabbassi and I fell in love with the rosewood oud, which he showed us HERE.
After a few hours of playing I now get used to the fretless fingerboard ... as a former guitarist I expected this too take more time. I also would
have expected to need more time to get used to the arabic tuning C-F-A-d-g-c, but I'm slowly getting familiar with it.
But who cares ... I'm making progress faster than I expected and that makes fun I'm working on my first song for oud now ... I don't like playing other peoples songs
Gotta check out my cheap PC microphone, if it's good enough, then I'll upload a short sound sample ... if you can stand that I'm an absolute beginner, far from perfect, I play European music and I bet you'll
notice, that I'm a former guitarist.
Oh ... btw ... I have a question about the strings, which concerns me a bit ... please have a look HERE.
PS: I forgot to mention ... in real life it sounds much better as in the video Sabbassi posted
Greetings from Germany
Chris

Thank you very much. What I like most, is it's warm sound through the whole frequency range.
I think Sabbassi found a very nice combination of wood choice and soundhole concept on this oud, that made this possible.
PS: My PC microphon is too bad to make a realistic sounding recording, but Tony gave me a nice tip for building a cheap reasonable pickup at low
costs. That might be a solution until I have money for a good one.

Thanks,
FernandRaynaud gave me a nice tip how to build a cheap pickup, that should yield better results as my horrible PC micro.
I hope I can give it a try the next days ... one piece is still missing, but should be easier to get as what I already bought.
Photos will follow.
What do they write at the end of TV series? ...
... to be continued

Hi - I too have just acquired my first oud. I live in UK, but went to Soke for it. It is made in Izmir. I am trying to choose a chromatic tuner to
use. Is the Korg CA-1 OK?

Hi!
There is a Korg model, that is often recommended, but I don't know, if it was the CA-1.
How would you like a good tuner for free? I use AP Tuner, which was recommended in the Advice Forum. Even with a cheap PC microphone it works great. And the best is you can save presets for
individual tunings for the case, you want to use a different tuning sometimes.
As far as you don't need a tuner to carry with you, AP Tuner is perfect.
Yes, but I need more lives ... I have too many hobbies

Let me show you something completely different ... I shot an infrared photo (no, it has nothing to do with heat photography), which shows nicely the wood grain of the dark rosewood.
