Turunz reduced price ouds

gentlemen,
I got one of those reduced price Turunz ouds.
My target is CCcc tuning. It came with Pyramid orage lable which I didn't like specifically on that oud. I tried Labella and it sucks on that oud. I tried the Thomastik and it sounds now much better.
How to get the most out of this oud? Which type of ready sets would you recommend for that oud?
Are Daniel Mari sets better than the Thomastic? any suggestions other than the brands I mentioned?

Omar,

I have two ouds made by Faruk Türünz, a reduced price model made for Turkish tuning and a custom single made for Arabic tuning. I've tried Küschner strings on both of them, and I like they way they sound. I think these are the strings that Faruk usually puts on both types of his ouds, although maybe he varies them. At first I found the Küschner strings to be a little too "bright" or "twangy", but they settle down over time.

I've uploaded a couple of videos in the last few days of both ouds with the Küschner strings. In this video, http://youtu.be/9KRhmkcgxIE, you can see my Arabic tuned oud (C F A d g c). And in this one, http://youtu.be/RUVCcJtw9zk, you can see my Turkish tuned oud (B F# B e a d).

I've also tried the MusiCaravan "Necati Celik" strings for my Turkish tuned oud, and I like them a lot. Next I'm going to try custom Pyramid lute string sets for both.

You can found on ebay or get in touch with Kenan Ozten for larger orders

Suz,
Are those Ozten strings for Arabic or Turkish tuning?

Hello Omar,
he makes for turkish and for arabic tuning, with different tension and different tuning (he proposes also arabic tuning in F for exemple). My last arabic sets from him are 0.10, hard tension, I use in C on my 58.5 stringlengthed oud. But maybe some would find it a bit tough in tension .
He makes the string himself, trebles are carbon.
I don't know if the seller on ebay is from Ozten workshop. Maybe you better get in touch with the maker.
Best

That recording was made with Faruk Türünz arabic oud, Pyramid lute strings, i bought the set from Oudstrings.com. It's the lightest gauge.
Strings are about one year old, but i didin't play them a lot. So a little bit dull.

They are a bit expensive, but as you can hear they last long.

I find the pyramid lute to be phenomenal strings. they last long but also keep their tuning much better than other strings.

I tried Daniel Mari strings I thought they were awfull but you get what you pay for. I find the regular pyramid to be better strings and even labella are better.

I think the Mari strings will be too light in tension for that tuning on the Turunz oud (if I recall correctly, the string length is 58.5cm). Especially given how low Turunz's action usually is, this is probably not the best choice. I like the Mari actually, though they are somewhat less consistent than other manufacturers' sets. They sound best on somewhat longer-scale ouds in my experience, 61cm+.

Personally, I always use a mix of strings—I don't think any prepackaged set works ideally. I had Mari adjust some of the string gauges for the Arabic sets I sell on OudStrings.com, and I think it is a big improvement. Still, I usually end up changing one or both of the treble strings.
