Oud recordings for beginner
Hi everyone. I am a beginner at Arabic oud. Does anyone care to recommend their top one or two albums that no oud player should be without? Thank you
in advance!

Brian, any idea where I can get my hands on "The Music of Mohamed Abdel Wahab" by Simon Shaheen??? I've been dying to hear that one.
For Turkish, Saray by Yurdal Tokcan. Literally changed my life, and how I saw the Oud.
Eclipse by Hamza Al Din.
For Arabic, I'm not sure everyone would agree with this, but I'm a big fan of Nizar Rohana's album "Sard".

Here is a link to some used copies: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00008FC7U/ref=tmm_acd_used_...
Occasionally I can get some new copies from the Shaheens, I'll mention it here next time I can get some.

If I had to pick three "desert island" oud albums they would be
Driss El Maloumi - Makan
The Greek Folk Instruments vol 7 - Outi
Yuval Ron - Oud Prayers on the Road to St Jacques
These are all modern albums and I would say the first and second have had the most influence on me. The Yuval Ron album is ambient atmospheric oud
playing. You can have that thing on rotation for hours.
You'll see some great stuff here too:

Since some folks were asking about getting copies of the Simon Shaheen Abdel Wahab recording, I thought I'd mention that I managed to get a few more
copies.
Oudstrings - recordings
I get these directly from the Shaheens.
