Question about tuning and learning with different string setup

https://www.flickr.com/photos/145456894@N07/shares/8J643n

I recently purchased this oud. I was looking on izif.com and watching the beginners videos and I noticed that the instructor doesn't have the top set of strings(bass) like I do and I do not have the lower set of strings like he does. Will this hinder my learning in anyway if I do not have access to the same set of strings that he does? Also, what is a typical tuning setup for my oud? Thanks

Welcome to the forum Hicks.

I had the same issue when I started looking at their videos, but things will get easier after a while. You can skip the lessons you can not do and focus more on the things you can do with your oud.

Different styles and ouds will use different tuning or different order of strings.

This site have some cool info that should help: http://www.oudcafe.com/stringing_and_tuning.htm

In the end, the notes are the same and the challenge is to get used to the note location on your oud.

I hope this will help a little bit and good luck with your new oud.
