Rosette gluing
Hi guys,
I would like to know how to glue a rosette in a way so that it's easy to remove it if needed, especially on cedar soundboards.
I would be grateful if you could help.
Regards,
Omar

Best thing is to use hide glue but all glues will leave a residue that needs to be removed the glue the next rosette flat.
Also it depends what the rosette is made of. Plastic is very hard to glue on wood and needs something stronger.

Thanks Samir,
Actually my concern is that when rossettes are removed, they take part of the cedar fibers with them no matter what.
Is there a way to glue the rosette so next time when removed it doesn't pull anything from the top?

Hide glue can be steamed and will not pull wood

How to steam that rosette-soundboard joint?
I always made it wet and used very fine knife....I would let the areas that I pentrated with the knife soak through and made the knife
warm...nevertheless I always pulled some cedar parts

Hide glue can be softened with heat only, either heat your knife or apply heat with a small iron on the wood just above the edge of the rose hole.
Steam or water will soften the soft wood of the soundboard, so I use it sparingly. I use a small iron from a hobby shop or craftstore. Aliphatic glue
(tiebond, yellow carpenter's glue) will soften with heat but not water or steam. Any synthetic glue will have to be completely removed to reglue.
Residue hide glue can be reused by softening with a little warm water. Beware using epoxy or crazy glue, you'll not get the rose out without damage.
If it is a horn rose heat can destroy it so be extra careful.
