Dear all
find below an extract taken from the introduction of Meeting of the Great Pyramids by Ali Kisserwan:
Analysis in music is the process of tearing down a complete work in order to reduce it to the elements used in its construction.
These include:
The components of the work, the instrumental and vocal sections (in a vocal work) and the elements that form the musical construction of these
sections, referred to here as the elements of musical construction, which include sentences, phrases and cells;
the techniques of transformation for the elements of musical construction, including similarity, sequence, transposition, variation, development,
tanwīʿ, repetition, etc…;
the maqāmāt, rhythms and ajnās employed, as well as the maḥaṭ(s), rakīza(s) and ʿaqid(s) in their different
varieties;
the descriptions that are applied to specific formations of the elements of musical construction, such as sub-passage, independent lāzima, link,
and qafla, or stable, unstable, and semi-stable degrees;
the determination of the musical form of the work, and the determination of the type and form of the poetic text (in a vocal work);
the determination of length in terms of the number of measures;
the determination of range of the work and vocal range of the singer;
the determination of duration, meters, and tempi;
the aggregation of sentences, links, and sometimes independent lawāzim, and of maqāmāt, rhythms, meters and tempi.
Performance is also highlighted, whether it consists of the ensemble or solo instrument. The name of the composer, poet, singer, era of the work are
all indicated, in addition to the publishing date, publisher, producer, etc… as will be seen in the book. All of this information is provided in the
description in order to facilitate understanding of the musical and lyrical components of the work.
This work aims at collecting and evaluating the works of Mohammad ‘Abdel Wahab for Umm Kulthum through transcription and analysis. It includes an
explanation of the methods and approaches employed, and the bases for the analysis. It is divided into two parts: the first part includes analysis of
the songs, statistical tables, and definitions. The second part includes the musical notation, maqāmāt, ajnās and rhythms.
The method of analysis devised for this book can be used for any vocal and instrumental form, and we may arrive at additional vocabulary and terms as
we analyze more works with different traits. Discretion is allowed.
all the best

Dear suz_i_dil
Let me explain more
Meeting of the Great Pyramids came in 2 languages
Arabic (vol. 1-2)
English (vol. 1-2)
So vol 1 in English is a full and accurate translation of vol 1 in Arabic
And vol 2 in both languages is one and common since it includes only musical notation, techniques, maqamat, rythms and poetic texts
And in this case who reads English will get 2 vols. only as well for the one who reads Arabic will get only 2 vols. too
Unless if you like to get the book in 2 languages then you will buy the 3 vols
Hope you got the point
Best

In coordination with the author and under his supervision, you can find below an example from "Meeting of the Great Pyramids" book:
Second section – vocal-first passage and Second section- vocal – second passage/Istihlāl from “’Inta ‘Umrī. The analysis, scores
and the audio files are attached.
Notes:
We depended on studio recordings as the sources for transcription.
The musical notation was divided into sentences, and we put red signs at the phrases and the cell for more clarifications.
The vocal record was divided into sentences, phrases and cells.
There is a detailed and enough explanation for the symbolic writing at the beginning of the book with the abbreviations, In addition to definitions
and clarifications. As well, we created a new way to write the musical notation (symbolic and semi-symbolic writings), and By necessity, we have
devised a way of writing out musical notation structurally. First, because it was necessary to translate the musical notation into numbers, terms and
structural formulas. Second, to avoid repeating the transcription of the work a second time, bit by bit, which would cause each section, along with
its explanation and analysis, to occupy a needlessly large amount of space in the book. Additionally, it is useful for the musical score to be
complete and contiguous to facilitate performance, instead of being divided into scattered sentences, phrases and cells. Whereas, the purpose of the
structural formulas is analysis of the musical work.
The lyrics of the vocal section – the example:
illayālil ḥilwah wishshūʾ wil maḥabbah min zamān wil ʾalbi shāyilhum ʿashānak
Dūʾ maʿāyal ḥubb dūʾ ḥabbah biḥabbah min ḥanān ʾalbī illī ṭāl
shūʾul ḥanānak
Some abbreviations:
The introduction I
The section D
Vocal voc
Music/musical mu
Sentence s where { } is used
Phrase p where [ ] is used
Semi phrase sp where (( )) is used
Cell c where ( ) is used
to be continued...
