Another good thing to do in the dark!
Thanks to the great guidance offered by this site and particularly to posts by Jameel and Brian, I have improved my right-hand technique significantly
with rigorous daily exersizes of the various down and upstroke possibilities.
But I have also found that performing these repetitive exercises in a dark room improves my concentration and ability to be more critical of the
differences in sound between down and upstrokes. It becomes less like practice and more like a meditation.
Of course the bedroom is the best acoustic space in most homes, so just wait until your partner switches the lights off for the night and go for
it.
Regards,
Greg

am sure ur partner will be so happy! she hears oud all day long and then goes to sleep dreaming of oud!! but i know exactly what you mean. i regularly do that and helps me really listen to the sounds that i am making with
the oudits the best way to practice.

Hi,
Yeah, it's funny how any instrument sounds more rich and full in the dark. Probably b/c we are only using our ears and ignoring what we see or think
we see.

well mav i am not a 100% sure but i think because at night it is quiet and there aren't any light waves or many other interferences travelling through
the air so therefor the sound waves produced buy playing your oud are almost completely undisturbed!

You can get the same effect, mostly, during the day... shut your eyes and "pretend" it's really 2 am!

time.
