Talk me out of buying a second oud!
So, in 2005 I bought a Shehata oud via Mike and I really love it. Unfortunately, life got in the way and it sat in a closet for close to 13 years
without being touched.
I recently restrung it and tuned it and I'm starting to learn and practice again. It still sounds great and is in perfect condition, and I'm still
thrilled with it.
Now that I've got the fever again, I'm thinking about picking up a second oud - a Syrian one, just to have a different kind of sound to play with and
perhaps a more traditional ornate look.
I know that every oud is different and that Egyptian and Syrian ouds have different sounds, but I'm hesitant to drop $1000-1500 just for a hobby. I'm
just wondering if the difference is enough to make it worth it.
(Yes, I'm undecided.)
I'm looking for something with this kind of style and price range:

This is my current Oud:
Thoughts?

If you have the money, why not? No two ouds will sound exactly the same and they are beautiful to collect provided you will play them and not just
stow them away or hang them up for decoration.

Not helpful!
I'm kidding, of course. :-) Thank you for the feedback. I'm thinking the same thing, to be honest. The trick is to keep at it and not let them sit.
I bought my first Oud when I was 34 and things in life have changed a lot since then.
I'm just grateful that Mike and the forums are still around to keep me motivated.

You're absolutely right in that the trick is setting aside time to play them and not let them sit. Just have to make it a priority on a daily/weekly
basis. This forum is definitely a great resource

Thanks, Sam - Will do!
I'm actually going to Jordan and Lebanon in March, so I might just wait and see if I can get over to Syria and perhaps get one from there.

Geez Roddie, now you've got me wanting to get another!
Never heard of Zaher Khalifeh, how do you get one of his Ouds? They're beautiful!

Just heard back from Zaher - That oud is 2000€ (about $2500 US). A little too much for me, but man is it beautiful. He says his ouds start at
1500€
His Facebook is here: https://www.facebook.com/oud.zaher.khalifa/
He's now located in Germany - I found a couple of reviews on the site from buyers.

Hi roddie. If you are going to Jordan and Lebanon there are shops where you can get a decent price. I bought my Zeryab oud (not the Nahat model) from
this place in Beirut: https://m.facebook.com/electromusic.aridi/
It’s a tiny shop. If you talk to the owner ahead of time I’m sure he can get something you would be happy with. You can find him and other shops
also on OLX as well. For example: https://www.olx.com.lb/ad/oud-professional-new-ID6PPFE.html
I’m sure there are similar shops in Jordan as well.
Best of luck!
