Ali Khalifeh and Sons Oud

Hello, Oud newbie, can I get some feedback on this Ali Khalifeh and Sons 1997 (?) oud. Would this be good for a beginner or is it tourist level? What would a reasonable price be? Thanks

Hi,

The design is certainly special but not my taste. You really need to examine this instrument in person before making a decision. Old ouds tend to have higher action and need to be examined for comfort of playing. Some ouds develop buzz which is difficult to get rid of. If you are a beginner, I suggest buying a new oud from a reputable maker. If you decide to go for this one, I wouldn't invest more than $250 to $300 on it given the unknown condition. You can get a student level Zeryab for $500 brand new (Ali Khalifeh is the predecessor of Zeryab).

hope this helps
