Which type of oud plays Siavash Roshan?
Hello, i'd like to ask you which type of oud is on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjn8QPqVPF0 (is it barbat?)
To me it sounds beautiful. I come from classical guitar background and contemplating to start to play an oud. I am from the country (central european)
where oud has no tradition. Only lute. Which kind of oud shall I look for if I want this round, warm tone a bit similar to classical guitar? Or is it
all in the players hands? My budget will be 1000 eur/dollars max. I am still not sure if I want to learn oud the "proper way" (maqams etc.) or to take
some freestyle journey and just enjoy it and try to improvise outside of usual fret grid of my guitar... Thank you in advance for your thoughts and
opinions!

Hi Cyril,
The oud he is playing is most likely a "Mohammadi Brothers" oud:

The price for such oud is likely 3 times your budget but you don't really need to start there. A well made Turkish oud will make a close enough sound.

Cyril, Mohammadi brothers are indeed Iranian. A low tuned Turkish oud will sound closer to what you are looking for at a lower cost, is what
coolsciguy is suggesting.

Interesting, thank you for clarification! It is very hard for me to decide which kind of oud I want... so many types and I still don't know the exact
sonic differences even after watching many videos and reading many articles... I want warm, deep sound, yet then sustain should be long... seems to be
either deep sound or sustain (arabic vs. turkish oud)...?

Turkish makers make arabic sounding ouds which have a deep sound and sustain. Look up Sultan plus model which is within your range.

coolsciguy: thank you very much! Looks very, very interesting! (from a video review it really sounds warm with a lot of sustain!) Also this one looks
great: https://www.sonsdelorient.com/en/strings-instruments/oud-sultan-ephe... (and I like the look of it slightly better )

Cool find! Sultan instrument usually runs a special during Christmas time where they sell their Sultan Plus model at a discount, it might be worth the
wait!
