There is Yousra Dhahbi. She is Tunisian and has a CD released by Institut Du Monde Arabe in Paris.

Gulcin Yahya is an excellent player. Also, her doctoral thesis on Yorgo Bacanos is definitely worth owning (Yorgo Bacanos'un ud takasimleri - 280
pages). Seems like it's only available in Turkish but the graphics and score are language-free.

Didn't Om Kkalthoum played oud as a young woman, I swear I saw a picture of her holding an oud, maybe I am just halucinating. I did hear though she
had some really amazing ears and could here if one instrument would fall out of tune in her orchestra.

Akram, I also heard that she was the one who taught him a lot of the things about the oud when he was young. Palestine, Om Kolthoum did indeed play
the oud, but I don't think there are any recordings for her playing. You weren't hallucinating.

There are lots of well established lady oud players in Turkey
Here is one of them.
Her name is BASAK ILHAN. She is the best student of Cinucen Tanrikorur. That is what Cinucen himself told me. She has one of the ouds I made for her
teacher. She holds a Phd degree from The Conservatory of Istanbul Technical Univ. in music composition. She teaches music in Marmara Univ. in
Istanbul. She is the one who provided Cinucen's Nihavend saz semaisi to this forum a little while ago.
I also like to add Gulcin YAHYA an excellent oudist and a student of Cinucen. Also holds Phd. in music and teaches in Gazi Univ. in Ankara. She has
published an oud method ( in Turkish )
Early 19th century we know that oud and kanun were the instruments used by most young girls in Turkish families of Istanbul. They have been trained to
provide entertaiment for their future families. Becouse there was no radio then. Later piano tookover when its introduced to Ottomans by Franz List.
