Darbuka sizes
I know a lot of people here play doumbek/darbuka... what size of drum do you play? Is their a standard size that is usually used with oud music?
What's better, ceramic or aluminum?

In my opinion ceramic is better. Derbake / tabla is my main instrument. There isnt one derbake that is used for oud music in special. There are
different size derbakes, They are categorized by a 4 screw a 6 screw and a 8 screw being the deepest sounding of all due to its volume. The most
popular one is a 6 screw derbake because it can be used as both bass beats and fast sharp filler portions. But a 4 screw is more suitable for the
sharp fillers (QAssim) and the 8 screw is to make more bass.
I dunno if I can explain better with a small video so Iam gona post a small video to show some things you can do with a 6 screw. Iam not a pro... just
a enthousiast.

That was an awesome video Samir, thanks! Can you tell me the dimensions of your derbake, and if possible where ou got it? The head looks to be
around 10 or 12" ? It sounds like that size can do a wide variety of sounds well, which is what I want.

Hi Jason,
If you go to page 7 ("Doumbek Types") of this PDF:
http://www.f3p.com/doumbek/choosing-handout.pdf
You can read an interesting explanation of the different sonic and playing characteristics of the different sorts (ceramic/aluminum body,
synthetic/natural-skin head, and so on). A fun article.
Bet you'll be buying one soon—I know I will be!

Hi Jason,
Copper darbukas and founded aluminium darbukas are the best for professional players.
