looking for a riqq

Anyone know where to get a decent Riqq or daf for a reasonable price?

Check http://www.glenvelez.com for some modern takes on the riqq, some are made by remo, others by cooperman. Most of them are not "cheap", but they're well made. Remo also has a Layne Redmond model riqq that's pretty decent -- the shell is a little bit deeper than the traditional egyptian riqq's, but it's indestructable, and sounds pretty good. The prices vary from about 85 to 175 dollars. Riqq's are as varied as ouds in tone (from the head, and the cymbals), and weight, and loudness. The traditional wood ones with the inlay, the fishskin heads, are my favorites, but there's all the maintenance issues, and the problems weather changes cause with the heads. Sorry for blabbing on..good luck..

Cheers..PaulO

Actually I'm glad you babbled PaulO haha, Because I dont know the differences in riqqs and how to pick one. My fingers have been getting a lil drum happy and thought I'd pick up a nice lil "toy" to improve my rhythmic skills. I have a dumbek but sometimes it gets too loud for the household.
